Biography
Originally from Quebec’s Eastern Townships, Émilie Lemay has been drawing inspiration from Manitoba’s exceptional skies since 2002. In addition to being a renowned painter, she is an active member of La Maison des Artistes Visuels Francophones, Mentoring Artists for Women’s Art, and the Société d’Appréciation des Nuages, demonstrating her deep commitment to the visual arts.
Her ardent desire to support and celebrate the visual arts is expressed through her cultural mediation. Her works are treasured in private and public collections across Canada, testifying to her significant impact on the art world. In short, Émilie Lemay embodies the essence of the passionate and talented artist, finding artistic fulfillment in the vast horizons of Manitoba.

ARTISTIC INTENT
“I paint landscapes that represent both the earth and its emotional charge. My art practice is based on observing atmospheric abstractions between sky and earth.
Each painting begins with the experience and documentation of the landscape; hikes, sketches, plein air paintings and reference photographs are the first steps. I then complete my work in the studio or at live painting events. Multiple brushstrokes and washes in watercolor, acrylic paint or water-soluble oil paint create a rich depth of luminous color.
I am inspired by solar variations that reveal the colors of the earth; these natural elements reflect our memories of wild places, storms, light on the horizon, moments of grace and the passage of time. My work expresses a deep attachment to nature and the hope that our environment will have a sustainable future. I hope they can evoke the places you hold dear and the emotions you have experienced in the great outdoors.”
