CCFM
Bent on discovery, creation, and surprise, the Centre culturel franco-manitobain (CCFM) offers a variety of activities to suit all ages and all tastes. Since 1974, the Centre has played an important role by featuring all forms of French-language artistic and cultural activities. It has given all Manitobans a chance to experience French Canadian culture. Recognized as a cultural centre and crossroad for French cultural life in Manitoba, it implements a performing arts and visual arts program as well as a community and educational program for residents of Manitoba. Located in the heart of Saint-Boniface, the French quarter of Winnipeg, CCFM organizes seasonal events every year, which actively contribute to the cultural vitality of the Franco-Manitoban community.
Mission
Innovative, dynamic and welcoming, the CCFM is a catalyst for artistic vitality, making it the ultimate meeting place for a modern and diverse Francophonie, connected to its culture.
Vision
The CCFM is a crossroads of Francophone artistic and cultural vitality, as well as an essential economic and social player in the community.
In 1898, the Sisters of the Holy Name of Jesus and Mary received this site from the Archbishop of St. Boniface and built the first St. Joseph’s Academy. The Oblate Fathers purchased the building in 1913 and it became “Le Juniorat de la Sainte-Famille”. It was demolished in 1971 to permit the construction of the new Centre culturel franco-manitobain according to the plans of the architect Étienne Gaboury. The CCFM, a Manitoba Crown Corporation, was incorporated in 1972 and opened its doors on January 25, 1974. Two new buildings have been added to the complex since then: the Centre du patrimoine, managed by the St-Boniface Historical Society and the Cercle Molière theatre.
