The French-Canadian Pavilion will open on Sunday until Saturday, August 19! We cannot wait to see you and to celebrate together French-Canadian culture.
Folklorama has been celebrating multiculturalism in Winnipeg for 48 years with over 20 participating pavilions. The French-Canadian Pavilion, hosted within the Centre culturel franco-manitobain, is one of them and welcomes guests to discover, rediscover and celebrate French-Canadian culture!
Again this year, visit the cultural displays to experience French-Canadians’ past and present. Make sure not to miss the Ensemble Folklorique de la Rivière Rouge performances! Who knows, you might get so excited that you might want to learn some jigging moves as well! Afterwards, you will surely need a good French-Canadian meal; meat pie, pea soup, sugar pie, which one are you going to try first?
The French-Canadian Pavilion is also an opportunity to gather for people in the community, whether they come as guests, organizers or volunteers! The success of the pavilion relies on the commitment, motivation and pride of over 120 volunteers throughout the week! Jacqueline Jubinville has been involved for 38 years and took on several roles as an artist, ambassador and volunteer. She participated as a volunteer with her parents and siblings and now with her own children: “one could say it’s a family affair”. Jonas Desrosiers, a volunteer since 2007 and Jacqueline’s cousin, also enjoys sharing his French-Canadian culture: “A group of volunteers proud of their culture, good food, with a very interesting show and a superior production quality; it makes for an excellent volunteering experience.”
Hard to choose a favourite part of the festivities with all the great food, lively performances and atmosphere, but all say that they love to share their culture and to see the positive feedback and the smiles of guests leaving the pavilion. Stéphany Halikas, also a volunteer, confirms that the Pavilion “is providing to guests a point of entry to discover the French-Canadian community, by introducing them to what we do best: celebrating en français.”
So, will you join the celebration this year?
